Archdiocese selling St. Louis Property..Residents need to be kept aware! City needs to Plan and consider purchasing!

It has come to my attention that the St. Louis Property is being put up for Sale by the Archdiocese of Boston. It is valued around $7,000,000 (Seven Million) for all the parcels including the parking lots.

I’m concerned that a developer or multiple developers would want to construct multiple unit condos, apartments or townhouses making a congested area even more congested. Do we really need 50-100 additional cars coming over the bridges and impacting the already crowded Aiken St., Bridge St., W.Sixth St. or Lakeview Ave areas?

We painfully learned from the High School location Issue that the City doesn’t always plan ahead. It is known that the School Dept. is looking for a permanent home for the Day School which deals with our Autistic students. Currently between the lease for the Day School in Chelmsford and the Bon Marche building downtown the School/City spends approx. $700,000 to lease these building.

Why can’t the city incorporate this purchase in their Capital Planning (In 10-11 years the cost would be paid) and purchase the site with the knowledge we could invest another $1,000,000 – $2,000,000 to bring it up to code/compliance remolded and house the Day School and School Dept?

Lot’s of land for outdoor activities for students, plenty of parking, on a bus line, can be used by the community for open space/recreation during the summer or to run summer programs for the children of Centralville!

Please page attention to what proposals are being made or discussed, contact the City Manager and Councilors and voice your concern on more multiple residential units in that area. Yes, the City of Lowell needs Property Tax money..NO we don’t need to force an already congested area into a more congested area and making traffic for Centralville residents more difficult than it already is.
