Former City Councilor – Former Mayor – Former LRTA Executive Director Bob Maguire passed away yesterday. I was very fortunate to get to know Bob a little over the past couple years.

He loved Lowell, his family and his friends. He had a twinkle in his eyes and a big smile and it allowed him to gain friends in age from 7 to 70. He loved talking politics both local and national, Lowell and US history and golf.

Bob was a gentleman who had so many talents, besides politics, he was an avid golfer, earning the nickname Shooter, a published writer , enjoyed Saratoga, his adopted state of Florida, the mountains of New Hampshire, walking at Veterans Park in Dracut and celebrating life with his family and friends. Bob held court at his son Mikes place Maguire’s in Dracut where he became family to so many.

Bob was a great resource and sounding board when I ran for School Committee. My condolences to his family and many many friends.

I think Bob would appreciate me sharing these political memories:

1968 – Bob Maguire was elected mayor on the first ballot with 6 votes to 3 for Tom Crowley.
