Major’s Owner, local businessman Corey Belanger announces City Council run on City Life this morning and stated IF Elected will support Rodney Elliot for Mayor!
Belanger lost in Ward 1, his home ward. He placed 10th. Close, but no cigar. That was the Ward One Washout, I had mentioned. He lost 8 of 11 wards, but did come in 7th in 3 wards: 5, 6 & 9. A winning finish in 2 wards could be a starting point, but he was only “in it” by about 25 votes per ward. In a low turnout city election. That could do the trick. Who figures we’ll go lower in 2013? Especially, after the highest modern turnout in 2012, evah?
On City Life, this morning, Belanger proclaimed his support for Elliott for Mayor. How does C.Kennedy feel about that? How about Kennedy’s Union allies? Until Kennedy concedes the position of Mayor in a very public way, I will continue to believe that Kennedy is planning on knocking Elliott out of contention. Kennedy wants to be Mayor and will shiv Elliott to get there. Kennedy will use a velvet shiv. With that wirey smile of his. Belanger hugging Elliott was not a deft move.
Also, this morning, Belanger gave a mixed report on Bernie Lynch. Plenty of waffle there. More significantly, Belanger stated he did not support a contract for the City Manager. Does anyone expect Lynch to stay without one? Pulling a contract away is, what some believe, a nifty move to rid Lowell of Lynch, without ‘firing him.’ I think it is ‘too cute, by half.’
Back to the ‘Ward One Washout,’ Belanger will run as a proxy for the Sheehy clan. How does John Leahy feel about that? This is splitting votes along clan lines in one ward. The Long Meadow will be buzzing!
What happens, if Jim Millinazzo tries to retake a seat? In 2011, Millinazzo finished 6th. Plus, Kevin Broderick will not be there.
By a show of hands, who thinks Broderick supporters will vote for Belanger?
This coming City Election, I will vote out only three …And for the Mayor…If he feel this council is not good enough..He can step down, and let someone else fill in for the next 10 month..and for Corey Belanger good luck…and for C.Elliott he was only one vote short……
Corey has a steep uphill climb.
In 2011, Belanger placed 13th, lagging the 9th position by 241 votes. Worse, he came in 27 votes behind John MacDonald’s ‘flash-in-the-pan’ campaign.
