JOINT COMMITTEE ON TOURISM, ARTS, AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
MASSACHUSETTS STATE HOUSE
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02133-1054
Chairwoman Senator Eileen Donoghue (D-Lowell) and Chairwoman Representative Sarah K. Peake (D-Provincetown) both of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development announced today that the Sixth Annual Artists Under the Dome event will be held on November 8th at the State House.
The 2012 event is brought to you by the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development, the Massachusetts State Treasurer’s Office, the Massachusetts Artists Leaders Coalition (MALC), the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Businesses, the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), and the State House’s Cultural Caucus.
“During this past legislative session the committee and I traveled the Commonwealth, literally from Pittsfield to Provincetown. At each stop, whether in Gloucester or Lowell or North Adams, we witnessed the arts as an essential economic spark and engine in each of these very diverse locations. The cultural sector not only feeds our soul and enhances our humanity, it also helps fuel our economy in a very important and robust way.” said Representative Sarah Peake. “I look forward to greeting all from the creative economy at the Sixth Annual Artists Under the Dome celebration next month.”
“Massachusetts is lucky to be home to such a wealth of artists,” said Senator Eileen Donoghue. “Our artists contribute to our local economies, while making our state an even more fun & vibrant place to live. I’m thrilled to welcome artists from across Massachusetts to the State House for the 6th annual Artists Under the Dome.”
“I am honored to be a part of the 6th annual Artists Under the Dome event,” said Treasurer Steven Grossman. “I look forward to celebrating the significant role that the arts play as an engine of economic growth for the Commonwealth and highlighting the impact that arts and culture have on Massachusetts’ creative economy
“Artists are the core of our state’s rich and vibrant cultural life, and major contributors to our creative economy,” said Anita Walker, Executive Director of the MCC. “Artists Under the Dome is a singular opportunity for artists of all disciplines to gather and discuss how state government can help create a supportive environment for them to thrive.
“MALC is proud to once again collaborate on the annual Artists Under the Dome Event at the historic State House. This event has become a wonderful tradition for our state and for our artists community as no other state in our country invites their visual artists, craft artists, writers, new media artists, performing artists and filmmakers to their state capitol to thank them for their work and contributions” said Kathleen Bitetti, artist and co-founder of artistsunderthedome.org and the Massachusetts Artists Leaders Coalition (MALC).
The free event will provide artists of all disciplines with the opportunity to become more engaged with State House Officials. The event will be held from 10am to 2:00pm primarily in the Great Hall. A portion of the event will include remarks from legislators and other State officials. There will be time for networking at a bring-your-own brown bag lunch, time for the artists to visit their legislators’ offices and to participate in an afternoon discussion: Fair Trade Means Fair Trade- addressing fair treatment of artists and their work in the Commonwealth and beyond.
The event is free and open to the public. Artists are strongly encouraged to RSVP for this event. For more information and to RSVP: www.artistsunderthedome.orgEileen M. Donoghue SENATE CHAIR Room 112 (617) 722-1630
