Bayliss – “Rita Mercier did not lie.”

In the latest chapter of who do you trust…Former Commissioner Bayliss is now saying on Tuesday he was for a public discussion but on Wednesday after talking to his Lawyer he changed his mind.

That backpedaling was done in the name of trying to save his friendship with Councilor Mercier who he hung out to dry in today’s sun.

Congrats to Lyle Moran for following up on my post and now in the breaking news section he has a story

Bayliss originally wanted public session on settlement

City Councilor Rita Mercier was correct Tuesday night when she said ousted License Commission Chairman Walter F. Bayliss Jr. told her he wanted his settlement with the city to be discussed in public.

“I should have said to Rita ‘I’m going to call my lawyer and find out whether it can be public’ and I did not,”

Bayliss said. “Rita Mercier did not lie.”

That sound you hear is Mr. Bayliss backpedaling to try and save some face..to little to late!

  1. Who is saving face? What did he King’s perpetual trash them in the Sun before you give them notice strategy cost the taxpayers of the City of Lowell? You will never know now, Gerry, will you?

Of course Rita did not lie on Tuesday night. Were you totally oblivious to the endless exercise in evasion that went on for 5 1/2 hours and who was doing the evading?

Early yesterday morning, I was aked at 7-11 on Mammoth Road whether there was anyone stupid enough in the City to believe the King’s Sergeant Schultz routine that he knew nothing about the IG letter.

I may disagree with Nicosia and would have loved to se it all public, but he does have a point about closure. Between the yes-man bobbleheads and the return Lowell government to We the People of Lowell factions, all of this would have gone on forever had the details become known.

And regrettably, Walter may have decided that all he wanted was to be left alone.

People like Jim Buba and I serve the public every single day and are too busy doing it to blow our own horns about it. In Buba’s case, it was life saving support for people in a community way outside of his district, for just one small example.

Walter Bayliss was an excellent example in that regard. Those in need in P-ville are well aware of and appreciate what we do, and that is enough for me.

With any trace of common decency, The King would be ashamed of this entire episode.

Good luck trying to find anyone of such calibre willing to serve on the License Commission. Line up, yes-men and bobbleheads and try doing a kindness for a total stranger very day.

  2. Elizabeth, the “why” is now fully revealed, as the last two city Counil Meeting disasters have left no doubt as to the meaning of “Professional Management” in Lowell, and has defined it unmistakably.

“Professional Management” as applied in our city is peformed by perpetual feeders at the public trough, who drive in and out of town each day feeding on the taxpayers of Lowell, the penultimate parasites fully emboldened and insulated by their “contracts”. When the King arrived, the top vote getter of all time was ignored and the “contract” became the word of the day for the King and His Court, roundly supported by the legion of yes-men and bobbleheads. God forbid that Lowell would be served by their neighbors, AT WILL WITH NO CONTRACTS AT THE WILL OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE CITIZENS OF LOWELL, JUST LIKE COXIE DID.

Nobody that is truly serving, believes in transparency and common decency, and who serves his fellow residents would ever have to worry about any contract, so behold what you have now…. unmitigated disaster, theft, corruption and waste in every city department and but fast…now the time arrived for the feeders at the public trough to be held “accountable.” And what did you see? Any notion that the King and His Court were “accountable” and anywhere in touch with their own departments , or even cared is out the window. Every aspect of the administrations “answers” were ridiculous to the point of utter absurdity, and what you saw was the beginning of the end of the Mercenary Monarchy in Lowell. It is only a question of time. Remember, in the azimuth of absurdity, we also
learned that the Absent Auditor sought a three year extension of her “contract” to do God only knows what, the pinnacle of absence from accountability, and a fitting microcosm of the entire disgraceful display..

Elizabeth, the time has arrived for the King and His Court to realize the final goal of their perpetual feeding at the public trough, and to extort the tribute from the taxpayers of Lowell due under the “severance” clauses of their “contracts.” Let them drive out of town glowing that their ultimate goals of self-enrichment were attained.

Nobody every elected them to anything, and my definition of public service is the direct polar opposite from the feeders.

Let us reclaim the government of the City of Lowell of,by and for its citizens and never make the same mistakes again.

    SEMPER VERITAS!

  3. Why do you say the city? They said they’d release everything. If Bayliss wants it in the open he can just tell his lawyer to do it. Nicosia represents him. He doesn’t own him.

  4. Dear Mike Long: When I served this this city as election commisioner and then as chairman of the election commission, it was my job to make sure that every candidate got a fair shake and that every citizen that had qualified to vote had that opportunity, and that is precisely what I did. The 21.02 per week notwithstanding, I performed my duties on November 2, 2002, election day, the day that my mother died. Commisioner Jan Mahoney was already in Indiana grieving the loss of her relative, and it was paramount to put the needs of the City of Lowell before my own personal devastation in order for the election to get done.

This is my definition of public service Mike, and I practice what I preach, without one single complaint from anyone all the time that I served. The King became aware of this way too late in his game, if he ever cared at all. You can easily verify this if you cared but, no, cheer them on and bobblehead all you want.

In any event, Mike, unless you were comatose or not watching at all on Tuesday Night, there was none of my definition of public service evident, only the most disgusting display of evasion and deceit I have ever witnesed in this City.

I have been trained to react not in anger, but with perfect calm, so that no perceptions are clouded.

You are forgiven, as I cannot expect you to understand any of the foregoing.

  5. Dear Mike Long: I apologize. It was Tuesday, November 5, 2002. The reason that November 2 is burned into my mind is that it is the last day I ever saw her alive. After 8 months of agony, all she wanted was a popsicle. You can imagine me running around the Hospital District in Back Bay buying every popsicle I could find.

In any event, our friends Anne Sepe and Bill Merrill would verify the Truth.

  6. Thank you Mr Wirtanen for your reply, i now have a new appreciation for the depth of your public service to the community , and also for your loss on that Nov. day,we may agree to disagree on the city manager i never said he is perfect he has certainly made his share of mistakes but it just seems to me your attacks are relentless and you never give the man any credit for anything, but with that being said i now have a better understanding of where your coming from, and by the way im really not a bobblehead……
