A few quick items…..

Meeting.SC-August152012

The Lowell School Committee meets tonight and I’ve attached the 143 page packet. Lots of information to go through has school is weeks away from opening. 2 items that jumped out at me

MEMORIALS:
5. 2012 / 383 Eddie Gayyean, Lowell High School student.

REPORTS OF THE SUPERINTENDENT:
12. 2012 / 385 Lowell High School Safety Plan

Councilor Rita Mercier was correct, the Parking Dept. reports and discussion should have been handled in a separate stand alone meeting, not 2 hours of the first Council meeting in 3 weeks!

I learned the hard way about making comments when elected officials don’t attend meetings but with no meeting in 3 weeks and this one packed with issue the absence of 2 councilors was striking.

City Life probably feels under attack from the Bloggers, first me, then Jack, Greg Page’s post and yesterday Dick Howe. We’re not attacking the show just the person who made outrages remarks and his lack of decency and fairness and willingness to blame Rita Mercier and the Lowell Sun for HIS comments. George and especially John have always promoted the blogs and invited us to participate and I for one Thank them.

I’ve learned that sometimes discretion is the better part of valor and that its easier and less costly sometimes to plead out or settle. Prolong litigation is expensive and drags the entire family through the mud and people who value family especially with children in the legal profession don’t want to cause them any embarrassment nor do they want an aging parent to suffer and worry and have the family name tarnished. Good people get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time so I tend to respect a guy who wants to do what is best for his entire family even at the cost of his own reputation.

Manager Brian Martin removed a member of the Historic Board in the 1990′s, so Manager Lynch isn’t setting a precedent. However Walter Bayliss is a proud man and will not go without having his due process nor should he if he feels that way. It will be must see TV the night of that hearing!

I agree with Ted Panos who said today on WCAP that this is a HUGE test for the City Manager. IF 6 councilors overturn his decision and re-instate Mr. Bayliss then the Managers time in Lowell is at the end. If he is supported by a 7-2 or better than chances are he’s here for the length of the current contract.

Chris Scott from the SUN picked a bad week to take a vacation so much happening and so much he could post. Hope he’s enjoying Maine with the family.
