Ramblings on a Monday

Looking forward to my 1st Spinners game of the year, Wednesday night with my daughter.

Ulowell ran a Kayak program on the River and a BIG shout out to the staff who were great with the kids and my 11 year old daughter will be kayaking and maybe rowing because of her time at that program.

Speaking of Ulowell don’t forget . “A Conversation with Stephen King” – set for Friday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Arena, tickets are on sale now.

3 Weeks between Council meetings seems like a nice break, with the “Summer” schedule it doesn’t appear a huge need for weekly meetings, why not go back to the twice a month model and schedule the “Special Meetings” (Auditor, Clerk and Manager reviews) on the off weeks?

Thursday August 16th, all eyes will be on the Greater Lowell Tech. School Committee meeting to see if Mike Lenzi resigns!

The Lowell School Committee has been out of the limelight and appears to be working well with the Superintendent. Sometimes No news is in fact good news.

Where is that State Inspector Generals Report on the LHA that was supposed to be out in July?

I have 3 questions ready for tomorrow’s night’s City Manager’s Roundtable reviewing his past 6 years. Wonder if I’ll get to ask all 3 in the 90 minutes we have?

Thanks to George and John for letting me barge in and discuss the Taupier /Gitschier Post this morning on City Life.

Congratulations to Gary’s Ice Cream which on Thursday August 9th begins its 40th year of Home Made Ice Cream. According to Gary that makes it the oldest ice cream shop in the area under the same management. . Watch Facebook and Twitter for birthday special to be announced Thursday morning.

Over here in Centralville / Dracut area we have had 3 Frozen Yogurt Shops Open in the past 2-3 weeks. My wife, daughter and I have tried all 3 and here’s our combined thoughts:

FROZURT in the Sunrise Plaza next to SAL”s is our favorite of the 3. Flavors taste the best and the toppings are good (though no Hot Fudge) and the seating and atmosphere are enjoyable.

ALL MIXED UP is the best place to hang, nice and bright with much color but the flavors aren’t has strong as Frozurt. The toppings are great (they have Hot Fudge) and fresh and if they can get the frozen yogurt to have just a little more flavor then they would be my #1.

Both Frozurt and All Mixed Up have plenty of Parking.

BerryRich is in the strip Mall next to the Sunrise Shopping Center. It is the smallest of the 3 and Parking along with getting in and out isn’t always easy. They have plenty of flavors but aside from the Banana which my wife loved, they don’t burst with flavor. The room is small but bright and the topping are good.

  1. My 22 year old daughter and I took the Pawtucket canal tour today. Saw the amazing stone work, went thur the Francis gate house, we have lived here all our lives and never knew how beautiful the canels are. This particular canal you can t see by foot only boat. Our tour guide was great, real informative. We have plans for a different tour next week. The city and National Parks really surprized us today. Just wanted to share our day. I ll being telling all my friends.

    • Wonderful! I wish more “Lowellians” would get out and explore what’s great in their city. Thank you for helping spread the word about the canal tours!

  2. Update on GLTHS Football Coach dilemma, my son and another teammate contacted Supt. Santoro to recommend an Asst. coach who wanted the position. Supt. Santoro agreed to meet with the boys. When the boys arrived they were told she will not be available to meet with them because she was going on a two week vacation, and they could meet. With her asst. the following Wednesday. When they showed up Wednesday they were told ” thank you for your recommendation and we will be making our decision in two weeks. The season starts in thee weeks.
So not only did Supt. Santoro blow off two students who were taking the initiative and trying to help the program, but she obviously doesn’t care what they think. This woman is slowly trying to kill the athletic program at this fine school. First by forcing Dave Macglaughlin into retirement, when he was the best AD the school ever had, and now by sabotaging the football program weeks before the season. Yes, I know Kevin Callagy quit, but sometimes procedures and policy’s need to be put on the back burner for the good of the kids. There are a few very qualified candidates already on the staff. I only hope this doesn’t get political. But I have a feeling it will.

    • Santoro is arrogant beyond belief. How can she do that to the kids? Does she evn have a conscience? The Voke has always had a great sports program and it now sounds like she is trashing it. What a shame.
