Sunday Notes July 15th

In Today’s Sun Jen Myers has an interesting look back at the 1972 Chelmsford Tornado but the story that caught my eye is by Joyce Tsai about a Wilmington School Committee member using Facebook to “recaps meetings and school events, posts links to agendas and minutes and community news stories. He also uses it to encourage folks to contact him with questions, comments and concerns” and whether it is appropriate when the discussion becomes nasty and does this member reflect the body or can people distinguish between this member’s and other view and the committee’s view. It highlights again the new issues dealing with Social Media and politics. Chaz Scoggins has a story about the new health issues that Red Sox minor league player Ryan Westmoreland is dealing with.

I didn’t see the Sunday column on-line but if you read the Column Blog during the week you will have read most of today’s items of interest.

The Sun has an editorial that states ” No more politicians in state’s IG’s Office” but they made me laugh when they included this – (Bold Mine)

The Sun repeatedly has asked Sullivan to explain his findings to no avail. Also, he has repeatedly blocked The Sun’s Freedom of Information requests for data on how much taxpayer money was spent by the city of Lowell and the IG’s Office on their joint two-year probe of city corruption that yielded nothing but paperwork. The IG has told The Sun’s attorney that his probe is “ongoing” and it exempts his agency from turning over investigatory records. It’s an incredible statement since Sullivan’s website says the case is closed.

The Sun has its own suspicions. We believe that Sullivan is embarrassed to let taxpayers know exactly how much money was misspent on a government orchestrated political witchhunt that cost a councilor his elected office

Really? If you remember the Sun’s own countless stories attacking Councilor Kazanjian this seems to be a case of the pot calling the kettle black..LMAO

Jim Campanini and Fred Doyle both seem to have an endless quest of finding something, anything to attack the LHA to no avail (at least not yet.) Proof positive that politics does indeed make strange bedfellows.

We are pleased to invite you to The 2nd Annual Shawn M. Dumont Golf Classic, to be held on Monday, August 20, 2012, at Campbell’s Scottish Highlands Golf Course, 79 Brady Avenue, Salem NH. We are hopeful that this day of golf and fundraising will become one of the premier events on the golf calendar for years to come. The event is being held in memory of Shawn M. Dumont, who was taken from us far too early (8-18-10), as well as three other very special family members, Ronnie Dumont (2-20-11), Noah Shawn Dumont (8-17-11), and Frankie Dumont (10-4-11).

The Golf Classic day begins with registration at 8:00 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

Featured will be a full day of exciting events including best ball, closest to the pin challenge, longest drive in the fairway, etc.
Without having to step out onto the course, you can still support the Shawn M. Dumont Scholarship through a direct donation or sponsorship by using the enclosed form. You may also purchase tickets for the lunch portion of the tournament at the cost of $50 per person or donate a prize to be used in our raffle. Player spots are limited. The 3 Lowell State Representatives are clearly upset with Gov. Patrick for vetoing the Lowell based items in this years state budget. Rep. Dave Nangle is said to be furious and the most upset. Especially with the Governor’s lack on providing any relevent reasoning for the cuts.

The best reason being floated is a good old fashion one – Political Payback for the way Lt. Governor Tim Murray has been treated has a result of the Mike McLaughlin Fiasco which is tied to the Dracut Housing Authority and the appointment of Brian Bond over the re-appointment of Rep. Dave Nangle’s cousin and the unsuccessful attempt at replacing the Executive Director and the alleged involvement of former Lowell State Sen. Steve Panagiotakos and friend of the delegation Jerry Flynn to save Mary Karabatsos job at what appears to be the expense of the Lt. Governor’s political career.

If you forget the events here’s an old Boston Globe story by Glen Johnson which recalls the highlights and in view of the veto by Gov. Patrick seems to give credence to the thought that the Gov. decided to get his own payback.

Ed Kennedy’s comeback to the City Council seems to be aspiring others. With Mike Lenzi’s decision to move to Dracut resolved, it appears that former Greater Lowell School Committee member Ralph Hogan is trying his own comeback and is said to be interested in the seat. Hogan whose wife Judy is a popular figure in political circles and at Middlesex Community College was a bit of a divisive person when he was on the board and ran into some conflict issues when he was employed by the City of Lowell in the Planning and Development dept. while running for the Lowell School Committee in 2003.

It appears Cliff Kreiger or Ray Boutin will get appointed to fill out the term until the next City Election in 2013. That would be in-line with the original Charter unless someone can find me a later vote that changes that.

ALL MIXED UP is Open in Dracut on Broadway Road (site of the old Yum-Yum shop) stop in and say Hi to Ryan and Courtney.

The Team Micky Ward Charity Golf Classic is coming up on Monday, August 13, 2012 with a shotgun start at 1:00. Please consider golfing or sponsoring a hole and helping out Team Micky which helps out so many other local charities including the Salvation Army and the WCAP Radiothon. Click on the link and register to participate or sponsor.

  1. Are you saying.. that Gov Deval Patrick and Lt G Tim Murray would play politics with jobs and projects in Lowell as political payback for the people of the state cleaning up the mess that Murray created in the housing authorities?

All those good union construction jobs? I guess its who you know…

And I thought Patrick had a “vision” for the state.
