A few Friday Observations..and Saturday Morning Live

Tune into Saturday Morning Live from 6:00 -10:00 am on WCAP with Warren Shaw, Tom Byrne, Dennis Ready, Shawn Ashe and a revolving group of guest to talk about the current issues of the day. Lowell Elections are 4 weeks from this Tuesday and if you want to hear my thoughts on the shape of the race, tune into 980 WCAP tomorrow in the 7:00 hour when I join Saturday Morning Live to talk about all things Lowell and Lowell Politics.

The financial affairs and the way cash is handled at city hall is sure up for scrutiny and I’m just a little surprised that none of the City council challengers have done more with it.

When Councilor Mendonca was quoted as saying he was “disappointed because I had a recollection this was being addressed” and Rodney Elliot said ” the reconciliation issues are “embarrassing” for the city” and that I don’t think we have been vigilant enough.” It was a wide open invitation for a candidate to step forward and call them on it and yet nary a word was heard.

What will it take for a candidate (besides Fred Doyle) to be even the slightest bit critical of the current council and their ability to properly oversee and manage the city? The clerk’s office debacle and now the Possible $500G gap in Lowell treasurer’s account and yet I can’t find 1 word of criticism toward the council in general, let alone against a specific councilor.

Sandland Resume

A Lowell building inspector decides to move on and take another job. Not sure why that rates an article in the Sun or why they felt it did. When MK Gudza or Dennis Shaughnessy left the Sun to “pursue other interest” I don’t recall an article about that. Don’t people change jobs from time to time?

Anyway Best wishes to Mr. Sandland who judging by his resume (above pdf) was certainly a qualified individual who chose to work for the city and move on. Yes he was required to get Certified within a year like all inspectors but he certainly was qualified as are the other Inspectors. Sometimes people will ignore that fact.

A very nice turnout at both Connnie Martin’s Re-election Kick-off Party and at Paul Belley’s party at Longmeadow last night. Jack Mitchell was kind enough to post both their speeches that he video’d and if you click on Jack’s name under Latest Buzz you will find the Links.

A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER

Almighty God, Father of all Mercies, we ask Thy blessing and guidance on all law enforcement officers engaged in the protection of our citizens. Be with them in their lonely tours of duty while patrolling the busy streets of our cities and the remote areas of our country. Give them the blessing of your wisdom, to know and do what is right. Temper their actions with mercy and justice. When their tours are completed and the day is over, guide them safely home to their loved ones.

We ask Thy blessing and eternal rest to all our brothers who have sacrificed their very lives in the performance of their duties. Give to their loved ones the peace and strength to bear the anguish of their loss. Remove all resentment from their hearts, knowing that eternal peace and rest will abide their departed loved ones forever. This we beg Thy name forever and ever, Amen.
