Hey Buddy, can I get a copy of the Rules?

A Clue?

Click here, minimize and let play while reading

Jack,

Can you direct me to the rule book that shows me the list of sites where it is okay to post Anonymously? The sites where you aren’t allowed to be Anonymous should probably be included in that request and can I ask who made the rules and where can I get a copy of them?

Do a favor for those of us in the Over 45 age group who try to stay somewhat current and use the latest gizmo (Blogs, Tweets etc.) We would appreciate a copy of the rulebook so we know what, where and when we are allowed and not allowed to be Anonymous

(My guess is that it may depend if you have a D or an R after your political affiliation or if you are a FOJ!)

Why is it okay for me to hide my identity on LIL a site created locally by a Left Leaning Democratic Activist but not on Mark Zuckerberg’s site originally created to let people “hook up”?

I know I am not a techie or even a very good blogger who follows the “rules of blogging” (since I have no idea who made these rules, where they are or what they are anyway) but I find myself chuckling over the supposed outrage over SOCK PUPPETS when the person leading the charge is a local blogger whose site constantly allows fake names and phony people.

Maybe you should start posting as Inspector Clouseau, you are so interested in following the clues..I know at least now what board game to buy you for Christmas.(It was MacDonald in the Library with the Computer)

Why is it okay on a Blog to be Anonymous but FACEBOOK “A social network site” that has turned into a cross between the old water cooler (Do we really care that Snookie or You got wasted) and the Community Bulletin Board (Meeting Tonight, Fundraiser Tomorrow, Car for Sale, Elect Jim – Shoe Inspector) is off-limits?

Why should we not expect the same people who don’t have the backbone to sign their real name on a blog (Prince Charming – RIN – Lola) when attacking a Councilor, City Manager or State Rep. to hide behind a Facebook name and create another imaginary persona? How do any of us know if they are real or if they are just the work of the sites creator? Who monitors that? Who and Where are the identity police and who do they report too? Capt. Kangaroo? Capt. Kirk? The Captain and Tennile or Capt. Jack?

The reasons that were given to me for allowing Anonymous Post on Blogs are these:

1)Security and Privacy – This is arguably the most important reason of all When blogging about sensitive issues and controversial topics, some bloggers wish to be anonymous to avoid personal and/or professional repercussions

2)Anonymous blogging is also useful when bloggers wish to expose workplaces and organizations without being traced as the originator of the information and to avoid being fired from work and/or sued.

3)When a blogger wishes to write about highly personal matters, blogging anonymously may be the best way to go about expressing one’s true feelings, thoughts and experiences without trying to censor oneself too much.

4)People don’t have to be afraid that someone will be mad at them or get them in trouble

So what’s the difference if a person posts anonymously on Facebook for the same reason? If I work at City Hall don’t I want the Security and Privacy to Post on Facebook that I may be supportive of a Council Challenger without letting a current councilor or my co-worker who is a close friend of a councilor know that?

If a City Councilor’s treasurer or campaign co-coordinator or nephew works with me, do I really want them to know that I think the guy is a simpleton?

I can use my fake name on a Blog and say that but I can’t create a Facebook page to do the same thing? Where are these rules written ?

Speaking of the Rules and Facebook, can you PLEASE explain to me the big hubbub over “Stealing Friends” on Facebook? Last I checked I can send out a Friend request to anyone I can see on my “friends” list of friends.(The song “I’ll be there for you” is playing in my head with all this FRIENDS Talk). It doesn’t mean they have to accept it.

Didn’t we learn anything from Nancy Regan? Can’t we “Just SAY NO?”

Again where are these “rules” that have people so offended and upset?

You want the Politicians to play in your sandbox but if someone or a friend/supporter of someone kicks up a little dirt or breaks one of your imaginary rules, you claim to be outraged and want to do a weak Geraldo Rivera impersonation and try a stunt like offering a check to a campaign for the Real identity of people. Yet you don’t make the same offer for the identities of the cowards who post none stop on your own site hiding behind easily identifiable fake names. Is it because they generally agree with you?

Where in the rules does it say I can hide my identity on YOUR Blog but not on Mark Zuckerberg’s site?

If any person running for office thinks Facebook friends or Blog/Facebook poster will get them elected they are more delusional than a person who calls themselves Prince Charming.

It’s a social meeting Network..look at the FLUFF Posted and take the real issues that are addressed at a Forum or Candidates Night more serious than a social network site originally created to replace the corner bar to meet someone to hook up with.

Facebook is nothing more than a Fluff factory to show picture of the new baby, boyfriend, girlfriend, car and latest version of the Iphone. It is to post party dates, introduce a candidate, band, singer, etc. to people who might be interested and a place where you don’t have to accept a friend request.

If you are going to whine about fake names, start with Prince Charming and the gang that post on LIL and if you have to resort to lame stunts to discredit a candidate because he isn’t someone you support or share the same political party with just admit that is what you are doing instead of trying to create a local version of the X files (the truth is out there).

Finally on that Christmas gift, do you want the traditional board game or the newer version that you play using your cell phone?

City Council Spotlight – Mayor Jim Milinazzo

First in the series

1) After so many years on the Lowell City Council, why run for City Council again this year?

As you are aware, I am finishing up my 4th term on the council. With my strong private sector background, especially in the area of economic development, I want to continue to provide input on the overall direction of the city.

2) What do you see as the 3 biggest issues facing the City of Lowell and how would you go about addressing them?

Doing more with less and living within our means;

Keeping economic development initiatives moving forward in an effort to create jobs and to expand the commercial tax base and

Public safety – it continues to be an issue for the city-impacts the quality of life in all of our neighborhoods including the downtown.

3) Are you satisfied with the Police coverage/capacity to protect the citizens/visitors/college students of a first class community? If yes, why? If not, what are your specific proposals to address these needs other than applying for state/federal short term grants?

As I mentioned above, public safety continues to be an issue facing the city of Lowell. The council needs to continue to work with the Police Department to address concerns throughout the city in a coordinated fashion.

Overall, I am satisfied with the capacity of the Police Department to protect all of the citizens of Lowell. The Police Department’s efforts to work in partnership with UMASS Lowell and the National Park Service Police Departments and all neighborhood groups are vital to our overall public safety. State and federal grants will be needed to maintain appropriate staffing levels.

4) What do you consider your proudest achievement as a Lowell City Councilor?

I feel there are many, but if I have to name one, being selected Mayor by my colleagues to represent the city has been an honor for me over the past two years. I have also enjoyed my work on the Lowell School Committee.

5) Do you support the current City Manager?

Yes, I do support City Manager Lynch. Working in partnership with the city council, his administration has been able to keep the city moving forward during very difficult economic times. The city’s fiscal outlook continues to improve while planning for important capital investments

6) Any upcoming events or contact information you would like to list for people interested in your campaign?
