Proof Positive that Politics make Strange Bedfellows

“Politics makes strange bedfellows” …Charles Dudley Warner

Talk about your political strange bedfellows..Who would have ever imagined Jim Campanini and Fred Doyle working together or at the very least, being on the same wavelength.

In case you missed today’s Sun first on page 5 comes perennial council challenger Fred Doyle’s first of what I am sure will be several attacks on the City Manager.

Here is just a snippet from today’s paper: The 72-year-old retiree says he is frustrated by the direction of Lowell under City Manager Bernie Lynch and says he would be a councilor who is willing to stand up to the manager and criticize him. “The current crop of councilors is a bunch of rubber stamps,” he said.

Doyle pointed to Lynch’s policies on taxes, fees and health care as three topics he plans to highlight and criticize Lynch for during the campaign…. Doyle has run over a halfdozen times previously and finished in 15th place in 2009. He said he is looking forward to the upcoming candidates’ forums. “ I’m taking the gloves out, and I’m ready to slug it out,” he said

One could point out to Mr. Doyle that Mr. Lynch ISN”T a candidate and that he should direct his attack to the council but why bother. The attack dog has his sights set.

To go along with that the Editorial in today’s Sun takes a shot at the Manager, the Mayor and
outgoing City Councilor Franky Franky Descoteaux, titled: The puppeteers that concludes with this piece of wisdom:

But this isn’t the first time the Lynch-Milinazzo Puppet Show has performed its act of arrogant disdain toward residents and former city employees — shutting them out or discouraging them — and it probably won’t be the last. This government is out to please itself, period.

At some point, though, Lowellians have to ask themselves: Is this what “professional” government is all about, disrespecting democracy and the people you are sworn — and paid — to serve?

This morning on WCAP Mayor pointed out that in fact BEFORE the meeting started he WAS ASKED by several of the RETIREES to postpone the meeting and in fact the Council “suspended” the hearing to take it up again in Sept. A FACT the editorial ignores.

Retiree Dennis Canney called in this morning and stated it was a little confusing the way the council handled it but that most were pleased is will be taken up again in Sept.

The pairing of Doyle and the Sun is one many thought they would never see. Especially since in one of the several failed council campaigns Doyle has unsuccessfully waged he made THE SUN the issue. copy and past this link to hear a classic Doyle rant. The Best of Fred

Seems like a profound case of the Sun’s puppet-master in chief laying the smack down on folks who simply won’t dance to his string-fest. Mr C, for example puppetered the Sun’s Sunday Focus section by disallowing me to publish a once a month column, which I had done for about four years. He decided my pieces were too opinionated – read they did not sound like those of Michele Maulkin and Anne Coulter. So, pretty much depends which side of the fence you stand on. For what Mr C believes and you are being level-headed and sensible; against what he believes and you are being manipulated or your point of view is unwelcome in the city’s (gulp) paper of record.

    Happy Hurricane all!

It is becoming more and more embarassing watching Campanini whine like a baby because Bernie Lynch is the city manager and he replaced his good friend. Once again he twists the truth until it fits the story he wants to write. Come on Jim get over the sacking of your bud and move on. Really Jim its time to move on. It is really starting to become a pathetic sight.
