Greater Lowell Technical School Committee Incumbent David C. LaFerriere pulled his papers to run for re-election. William Sheehan from Avon St. in Lowell has also pulled papers to run for the Greater Lowell Technical School Committee. Erik Gitschier has also pulled papers but still no word yet from incumbent Mike Lenzi.
The following have returned their nomination papers and have been certified to be on the ballot.
For Lowell City Council: Rita Mercier, Armand Mercier, Jim Milanazzo, Paul Belley,John Leahy, John MacDonald, Van Pech, Corey Belanger, Fredrick Wanjiku, Fred Doyle.
For Lowell School Committee: Dave Conway, Kristin Ross Sitcawich and Kim Scott

Gerry,
How come you didnt post where Mr. Sheehan’s wife worked. I’ll inform you Greater Lowell.
Because I don’t know Mr. Sheehan or his wife. How would I know where she works? What does she do?
I don’t mention where Erik Gitchier’s wife works because it is not nor should be an issue.
Also since she is already there what difference does that make? He can’t if elected take any vote that directly affects her pay or position.
There are MANY Lowell City Officials who have spouses and family working in the system. Why is it that the Tech is always being singled out?
I’ve learned from past experience, you can’t paint everyone with the same brush and the Tech seems to get targeted a lot.
In point of fact they offer the most information to the public on their website than Lowell.
Thats my point Gerry, Mr. Sheehan can’t vote on issues (pay raises ect.) because a family member works in the building. How many other members of the board have family members on the board? I have a real big problem with people running for an office that can not FULLY REPRESENT the position. Gerry do you really think board members can’t influence a vote of members even though they can’t vote on an issue?
Gerry you have been around longer than that.
Jay,
Why are you so concerned with the Tech yet at least 1 member of the Lowell School Committee and st least 2 City Councilors have family and you ignore that? Are you driends or related to another candidate in that race? You seem to have an agenda. Are you a member of MLF? They went after the tech and ignored the Lowell School dept. also.
Does Jay have an axe to grind? . I am not the most politically savvy person around and I can name about 30 people in Lowell politics who have connections in the city , the school dept and the Voke.
I don’t care what elected position it is, I feel that nobody who cannot vote on any issue especially relating to payroll and budgets should be elected.
Judging from the number of Elected officials who have family working in the City or School Dept, you seem to be in a minority.
Gerry… it’s the first question that should be asked of any candidate.
Oh citizen I see, it is ok for me to put in 16 years for no pay or anything as a school board member but it is not ok for someone in my family to apply for a job if they are fully qualified? Are you kidding ?
Mr. Hayden you got paid VERY WELL over the 16 years. Two family members working in the school system and hired while YOU were on the school board. At a cost of over 80K per year. This is a school not Burger King, as a tax payer I am looking to hire the MOST QUALIFIED for the position not just a board member’s family member who is fully qualified.
Nancy F,
Mike’s wife worked there BEFORE he was elected. In addition board members are NOT compensated.
Using your logic why don’t you attack John Leahy or the Mayor who both have family members employed by the Lowell School Dept.
I can’t understand why people go after only the TECH and their members but not after the City Council or Lowell School Committee members.
I speak from experience and the entire Tech Committee including Mr.Hayden were found NOT to have any Conflict of Interest by the State ethics committee.
mr. haydens wife got hired at the tech in 1997 and he was elected in 1993. gerry, you should only state facts.
She may have been hired full time but I beleive worked there befor .
You also didn’t answer my question..why just go after the voke and not Lowell? Who are you supporting or who are YOU working for and what is your attitude directed only at the Voke and Mike Hayden who isn’t running?
this is the first time i have ever posted on your website. i have been reading your blog for some time and agree with jay as no person on any elected board should have family members working under the board they are elected to. to answer your question you never said where the other two committee members family works. i had no idea they over see family members working under their committee. i agree with you, we need to stop this practice.
i am not supporting anyone in any race just simply using logic
Gerry your correct my wife started in the adult program teaching the same subject she currently teaches and was asked if she would take a job full time days by the woman running the program at the time and my wife declined at the time so I wish Nancy F or who ever he is would get his facts straight This all happened 10 years before she was hired full time and 6 years before I ran for the committee
