Been a tough week for the Manager and the Lowell City Library. This was just released by the Lowell Police Dept.:

Man Arrested At Pollard Memorial Library

LOWELL, MA (March 10, 2011) On Tuesday, March 8th 2011, David Donato, 23, of Lowell was arrested by officers from the Lowell PD. At approximately 5:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to 24 Waugh Street to locate Donato who had outstanding warrants for his arrest. The officers also learned that Donato was a Level 3 sex offender. Unable to locate Donato at the Waugh Street address, police learned that Donato may be at the City’s library. Police then proceeded to the Pollard Memorial Library and located Donato on the third floor where he was placed under arrest without incident. Donato’s arrest warrants were for (1) Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon and (2) Failing to Register as a Sex Offender. Donato was additionally charged with a second count of Failing to Register as a Sex Offender. Donato was arraigned in Lowell District Court the following day (March 9th).

Library Issue Highlights Council Split

"Progressive" Councilor Martin

The issue of public safety but more the issue of public servants going directly to Councilors rather than following the proper chain of command shows us the split in this city council. On one hand you have what I refer to as the “Constituent Driven” Councilors – Bud, Rita and Rodney who still believe that public service means exactly that, serving all the public (even city workers) and will bring forth issues and concerns of the average Dick and Jane.

The “Progressive” Councilors would be the remaining SIX who think chain of command and using the city web site for Pot hole, signs and Veteran Honoring request is the way to go and don’t seem to want to bother dealing with the public unless it is in the “BIG Picture”.

Seems to me we will find out by who runs and if they advertise themselves as a constituent serving councilor or a “progressive” councilor exactly what the city wants. Best guess is a combination of both but the progressive councilors cannot turn their noses at the constituent ones such as Councilors Murphy & Martin treat Bud and has Martin treats Rita and Rodney.

Mimi over on Left in Lowell has a Post discussing Tuesday’s meeting and wondering if the “Constituent Driven” Councilors were out of line with their questioning?

Fred Bahou has worked hard since his election to get this done either Live in Lowell or on the Internet and should be Thanked for following through.

In Memory of 2 Special Ladies – Betty Nutter and MaryEllen Warsnip

Aunt Betty

My Aunt Betty Rafferty Nutter passed away on Monday. Aunt Betty was 89 and was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, godmother and friend. Her and Uncle Bob had 10 children and their house always had many more since cousins and friends where always welcomed. Betty could bake anything and you looked forward to the smell of fresh bread when you entered the house. Aunt Betty could also sew and when we were little made us all cowboy vest and chaps and when we grew up and had our own kids made them baby blankets with their name on it. When I saw her a few weeks ago she told my mother and I that “I have one foot here and one foot in eternity and I’m ready to go, I have had a wonderful life and I would not have changed anything.” To be at peace and happy with your life is a great gift.
