Bud Caulfield is a liar, so says council candidate Fred Doyle who called into City Life this morning to refute comments by Councilor Bud Caulfield who was a guest on the show.
Doyle also made a point to call Councilor Rita Mercier a liar and rattle off several speeches he claims he wrote for her on a variety of issues after John McDonough last week said Ritas’ comments to Doyle’s original statement that he was her speechwriter, was “I write my own material”.
He again attacked the Manager and called him a liar for his explanation of the comments made in a private (well not so much now) meeting with Doyle.
It was vintage Doyle, everyone but Fred is a liar and Fred will take a lie detection test anytime anyplace. He makes me miss Buckles Nolan. At least Buckles was entertaining in a nice way. Fred is like watching a car crash, you want to look away but can’t help yourself. (sort of the way some people seem to feel about this BLOG)
Fred went further today stating that the Manager has people investigating 3 or 4 pieces of property sold by the city and that the sale was championed by Bud and Rita. He insinuated that Bud better get a lawyer.
I may have my disagreements with Rita and Bud on how they get their points across and may not agree with their stances on issues but in my opinion you will not find two councilors more honest, who better serve the average citizen of this city than these two.
You will not find more passionate and sincere people who love this city and try to help the citizens on a daily basis. It it why both get re-elected every year and why both are in the top 5 every election. I can disagree with them, but I don’t question their honesty and committment to the city.
You will not find two Councilors who have done more charitable work in this city than these two councilors and unless proven wrong in a court of law, I believe Bud and Rita more than a guy like Fred Doyle who has done nothing for this city but attack people.
It looks like the City Election will be a mud-slinging, personal attack campaign by Doyle and I am hoping someone ask him to give specific ways he will improve the city, business, taxes etc. and see if he has any specific ways to improve things or if his plan is attacking people who have served their City long and proudly like he did today.
From what group/demographic will Doyle get his votes? Bud/Rita supporters? Broderick/Martin supporters?
Odd that Doyle’s attacks go right at the councilors that hold the voters that he needs to get elected. In two short tirades, Doyle has tried to damage the CM, Caulfield & Mercier. There is an efficiency to his madness.
Though I may size Doyle as being no more that an ape throwing turd around his zoo cage, it would likely be a mistake to underestimate the implications of this driveby strategy.
Even loose cannons are forged and milled before they are brandished.
It seems to me that I stated a couple of weeks ago – that if Doyle runs it should make for an interesting election season. May I now please change that to a wacky election season. I, too, will take Bud and Rita over Doyle. Remember the problems he caused over the so-called paving in a parking lot on Highland Ave.? The only paving done was on the public right of way.
Y’know, it is an unfortunate turn in politics. It may be the Doyle may have something important to offer from time to time. I respected his input on the troubles around municipal workers fringe bennies in 2009.
But it is easy to get lost in the pointless, vendetta based hissy fits. It’s exhausting, attempting to cobble together something cogent or rational from his rants. So, the work around is to simply shut him off in your head. That’s not a good thing when we are trying to make Lowell a better place. But Doyle insists on making it impossible to listen.
Doyle’s too much of a loose cannon. Even when he makes a valid point, the rest of his lunacy drowns it out.
Agreed that attacking Mercier and Caulfield is counterproductive, because that’s exactly the anti-manager sentiment Doyle needs to tap into. It could be a legitimate base that could cause a change on the council this year, but by attacking the perceived leaders of that movement, Bud and Rita, Doyle is alienating the same voters he’s going to need to pull of his miracle run.
BTW, Paul Belley formally announced his candidacy on the radio this morning. Wonder which side of the Bernie fence he falls on?
Doyle is a “Nut Job” plain and simple. If he runs we’ll do a little investigating into his past and I’m sure we’ll find enough to make him pull out of the election quickly.
