RIP Pat McCarthy

Thanks to Roger Lau for this nice picture

Today, I heard the terrible news that a friend and fellow political junkie, Pat McCarthy, passed away after a few weeks spent in the hospital for a coronary event. I am not sure of the details and will not speculate. I would just like to say that though I only knew Pat since April, I could tell that he was a funny,

Pat working for U.S. Representative Tsongas at Kirk St.

witty, and strong-minded man. His love of politics and devotion to campaigning and working is something that I immediately admired about him. We always waved to each other as I drove by him smoking his fat stogies walking around Central St downtown. He touched many peoples’ hearts and minds with his sense of humor and his desire to keep the best people working in politics.

Pat doing what he does best!

Lowell, the 5th Congressional, the First Middlesex- all will miss his presence and the quality of his work. I am glad to have worked alongside him in the final days of the midterm election for Tsongas and I wish that things were not this way. You will be sorely missed, Pat, and I hope that heaven has a cigar-smoking section prepared for you!

My deepest regrets to the Mcarthy family, especially to his mother whom Pat adored so much. Pat was a unique person who always seemed to be in the mix of what was going on, a congressional campaing, the U.S. Senator coming to town, or just downtown having a stogie with our elected officials.

Pat, we’re all here for a short time, but I’m sure there is much more to come-enjoy the pearly gates my brother.
