Remember the Day, January 3, 2007

A friend send me this…What do you think?

Remember the Day, January 3, 2007

The day the democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009. It was actually January 3rd 2007 – the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, the start of the 110th Congress. The Democrat Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

For those who are listening to the liberals’ propagating the fallacy that everything is “Bush’s Fault,” think about this:

January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:

At the time:

The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77

The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%

The Unemployment rate was 4.6%

George Bush’s Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!

Remember the day…

January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy? BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!!!

THANK YOU DEMOCRATS for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment . . . to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOS! (BTW: George Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie – starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy).

And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac???? OBAMA

And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie???

OBAMA and the Democratic Congress

So, when someone tries to blame Bush . . .

REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd, 2007. . . THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER! Bush may have been in the car, but the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel — they were driving.

Random Thoughts…..WHY don’t we care

Why aren’t more people concerned or why don’t they care that while the House is OUT OF FORMAL SESSION but still collecting FULL PAY and BENEFITS that by a voice vote and with only about a dozen members on hand, the House on Wednesday morning advanced a $400 million spending bill??? Most members of the House do not attend the informal sessions; most House members are busy campaigning.

Why if the House/Senate stop their formal sessions to avoid lame duck shenanigans can House Leaders / members allow any bill to advance with the unanimous consent of the few members who do attend and why aren’t those running for Representative and Senate coming forward to say spending 400 Million by a handful of representative is wrong?

Am I the only one who expected the Republican / Independent candidates to come out swinging against their Democratic opponents? It has been very quiet since the primary. Maybe Oct will be lively.

Rep. Colleen Garry is having a Spaghetti Supper Fundraiser tonight Wednesday night, September 29, 2010 at Tyngsboro American Legion 5 pm – 8 pm

Look for the Paying Attention Radio program to pop up somewhere else on the dial within a week.

In a nice touch Barry Finegold is having a Thank You / Recruitment party for his supporters. The invitation reads: Thank you for all the help you’ve given us over the past few months! With just weeks until the General Election, we want to honor you while bringing in fresh faces to our team. We ask that you bring one (or more) friend or family member that would be interested in volunteering for the remainder of the campaign. The more the merrier! We hope to see you next Wednesday!

How long before the Federal/State investigations get put to bed and the city can move on?

I’d pay to hear Tom Byrne give his version of events and hope once things clear, Tom goes off on WCAP and tells it like it is. You could hear the anger in his voice and how upset he was that he put his family in this light. Give em hell Tom.

There is no media war between WCAP and the Sun, Teddy Panos works at CAP and writes for the Sun, Warren does to and Warren loves to spa with Chris Scott. You can disagree with someone and not be at war and toss the occasional barb at each other without holding a grudge. It is good publicity for both to mention each other. Say what you will about either and I have tweaked them both but I still believe Lowell needs a local Paper and Radio Station.

Great to hear Jack Baldwin back on the radio on a regular basis.

I expect to see a few new faces running for both the City Council and School Committee in Lowell next year. I think the Senate election has gotten some young people and some experienced activist interested and that is good for Lowell. We may also see 1 or 2 current councilors or committee people decide not to run.

What will the major issue be for the Council race? No more Cox/Lynch referendum. Will it be the higher taxes or water rates? The fact that the Manager hires outside Lowell people? All in all there seems to me to be little to complain about. The City under the direction of the Manager and current Council have done a solid job and we seem to be in good shape.

On The School Committee is could be the teachers contract (or lack of) or re-signing Supt. Scott.

There will also be two current Technical School board members up for re-election. Might we see some challengers for that race? Could/would Mike Hayden run if one of the current members doesn’t?

Haven’t heard a word good or bad, about the turnout at Matt Sheehan’s party last Sunday. Then again we haven’t heard a word from Matt on any issues either.

We saw Chris Doherty publicly support and urge his supporters to back Eileen Donoghue for Senate here in Lowell. In the Dracut/Andover district, we haven’t seen that and rumor has it many Wilson and Silberstein supporters are going over to Tomasek. Can Lantigua carry Finegold again??

Both Jim Buba and Pat O”Connor were on City Life this week. Both seem like very nice gentleman but neither came across as a strong challenger or presented any great reason not to support Eileen Donoghue.

Who will run for Dracut Selectman? Will Cathy Richardson’s success inspire another new comer to step into the race?

In Case you missed it….

Gotta Love how the Democrats really feel about the voters:Joe Biden: Democratic base should ‘stop whining’ MANCHESTER, N.H. — Campaigning for Democratic candidates in New Hampshire, Vice President Joe Biden said Monday the party’s base should “stop whining.”

U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry, during a tour of Boston Medical Center yesterday, said clueless voters are to blame for Democrats’ uphill fight against Republicans.

Meanwhile how are things at the Polls Gov?
<a Patrick support plummets, poll finds: Faulted on economy, reforms; tough reelection fight ahead

Governor Deval Patrick, fresh off signing a major tax increase and still battling through a historic budget crisis, has seen a huge drop in his standing among Massachusetts voters and faces a tough road to a second term, according to a new Boston Globe poll.

The MA. House ended their Formal Session in JULY…according to today’s Beacon Hill Roll Call During the week of Sept. 20-24, the House met for a total of one hour and 44 minutes .

Yet today according to the breaking News in the Sun: Massachusetts House Republicans have blocked Democrats plans to pass a $400 million spending bill.…Ok they ended the session on JULY 31st yet they want an informal session with no roll call and not a full House to pass a bill SPENDING 400 MILLION OF OUR TAX DOLLARS!

The House Leaders need to get on the same page, Legislative rules prohibit formal sessions after July 31 in an election year, a provision intended to prevent campaign season chicanery or lame-duck sessions.

They could reconvene but a majority of members in the House and Senate would have to opt to suspend the rules and meet in a special session, but each item on the agenda would require a two-thirds vote of support to come to the floor, a level that could prove insurmountable for some bills.

Bill Clinton: Dems must hone messageFormer President Bill Clinton tossed a political life preserver to John F. Kerry last night in Boston, defending the Bay State senior senator after his tone deaf voters-don’t-get-it comments but asserting that Democrats need to do a better job selling themselves to a riled up electorate. Now that Uncle Teddy isn’t around Bill has to come to MA. to save Kerry & Barney.

WCAP IS PAYING ATTENTION

If you missed Ted Panos this morning on WCAP you missed a lot. During the 6:30 half hour that CAP uses for people to Sound Off..Teddy did in a controlled by very clear message.

WCAP will no longer air Paying Attention with Tom Duggan on Saturdays. The why and reasons are the stations and they have received very few (1) calls asking for the shows return. Ted was annoyed that the Sun would devote so much space in the column when WCAP has refrained (Unlike this Blog) from commenting on the number of reporters/editors who have left the Sun. Teddy didn’t see the reason for the column item.

In addition Teddy pointed out that if “people” continue to act like a jilted lover on Facebook and twitter then WCAP has daily airtime they could and would devote to defending their move but would prefer not to.

If I were Tom Duggan I would shut up and stop complaining at all. I hear he will be on as a call in once a week and can use that to promote his Valley Patriot. Cut your loses, holster your temper and move on. You know you are in the wrong if Dracut After Dark supports you. You fought management and you lost. Simple now continue the paper and use WCAP once a week to promote it and you both win.

WCAP has had enough and if provoked will respond and you can’t beat them Tom. It’s over and time to move on to the next chapter. WCAP did announce that a new show will be on Saturday’s from 1-4 the Press Pass is back for all things Merrimack Valley Sports related

Sunday Notes Sept. 26 2010

Today’s Sunday Sun Political column is basically a recap of the week’s news….

It’s lead it the RMV investigation and focuses on Tom Byrne and his long association with many of the local politicians naming Councilors Rita Mercier, Bud Caulfield and Sen. Panagiotakos Not really anything new here except a shot at Bud for trying to distance himself from Tom. What a friend Bud is..toss the guy aside at the first hint of trouble.

Speaking of friends the Sun takes a shot at Warren Shaw,a friend of Tom who not only had Tom on yesterday but also spanked the Sun for running a leaked story that damaged the reputation of the Lowell Delegation without any proof. The Sun didn’t seem to like Warren’s shot at them.

The Sun rekindles the questioning by the FBI of the Lowell Assessors dept especially Sue Lemay and her friendship with Joe Tully and his ability to get assessments lowered. Nothing new just another attempt by the Sun to discredit a longtime City employee who has never been proven to do anything but her job. The fact that she’s married to a former Councilor and daughter in-law of a former Mayor is enough reason for the Sun to take a cheap shot.

Just curious but what does it say about the paper when a reporter/columnist takes a job has a school custodian over continued employment by the Sun?

There is also a mea culpa of sorts by Bobby Cox, stating that he may have misunderstood the boards counsel when it gave Joe DiRocco the okay to vote on the license for the one day liquor license and not realized that has a board member of the Sportsman Club the same didn’t apply to him. It seems like a logical misunderstanding, now let’s put it to bed and move on.

The Sun also has an item about the end of the Paying Attention radio Program on WCAP. The new insight they provide is that rumor has it that Tom Duggan may have been looking to secure financing to buy out Clark Smidt.

Earlier the Sun had reported on a rift between owners Sam Poulten and Clark with Sam trying to rest control of ownership from Clark. Tommy apparently supported this attempt and sided with Sam. Looks like Dean Johnson who is on air and part of ownership sides with Clark and they are pushing out Tommy and Paying Attention sending a message to Sam that they are staying and he and his supporters can hit the road.

Tom Duggan is an opinionated voice who appears to have a chip on his shoulders when it comes to authority and has openly clashed with Clark and the WCAP management. On at least 1 occasion that I know of Tom posted a note on Facebook that had me questioning WCAP and Tom was reprimanded for that. The show seemed to have sponsors and make money but between Toms’s rants against fellow CAP host Warren Shaw, his battles with management, his Facebook messages and his support of Sam Poulton over Clark was enough for Dean and Clark to get rid of him.

Tom must see the irony, like Willie did in Lawrence after his victory, you get rid of those not loyal and Clark has control and by getting rid of Tommy , he sends a loud message to all on air and off air CAP employees’. Clark is in charge and the station will run HIS way and if you don’t like it…good bye!

That covers most of the local Sunday column…a few other things.

Get well wishes to two well know people, longtime Democratic Committee member Marie Sweeney and retired technical School Supt. Jim Cassin who are both on the mend.

Now that the primaries are two weeks behind us, look for an up tempo swing in campaign activities. Jamison Tomasek needs to be able to show Finegold’s continued support of Tax increases and anti-jobs (Casino especially) votes without cartoons or being overly negative. Eileen Donoghue will continue to work Lowell and the surrounding towns and wait to see how Pat O’Connor and James Bubba try to make a name for themselves against her. John Golnic will try to use Congresswomen Tsongas record against her but coming from a guy who did not bother to vote and was arrested for DUI at 35 years old is attacking anyone else’s record with that in your own background the way to go?

Matt Sheehan comes out of the shadows with a party today for his “independent run” against Colleen Garry for State Rep. Repulican challenger George Boag has been sending out emails and postings on this Blog dealing with issues on legislature term limits, per diems and no robocalls. Sheehan has said or done nothing of note to date.

Dracut Forum takes a shot at Lowell Bloggers stating “Blogs are awful quiet in Lowell on this Tully thing.. Maybe Shawn needs to read this Blog and Richard Howe more objectively. Both had stories on the day the story broke. I also had one Friday defending the Lowell delegation which Warren Shaw echoed on his show yesterday. What more did he want us to say?

While we are on the subject on being quite and objective, I missed the posting on Dracut Forum about the Sun story dealing with neighborhood concerns over drinking and shooting at the Centraville Sportsmen’s Club whose members include Selectman Joe DiRocco and Bob Cox. I also missed the story about the Sun reporter/columnist who quit the paper and went to work for the Dracut School dept after the new Supt. was in place and after I am sure was another nation wide search. I did read that because of what I wrote even using material direct from previous post on Dracut Forum Blog I am a Ziminnite, I have no idea what is going on in Dracut and “Oh, and it looks like there is a plan to start attacking Scott as well”. I Guess if you report facts that the Forum host doesn’t agree with he turns into Dracut After Dark’s Frank Zabierek and attacks your character and motives. I can live with that if that is how he feels but will continue to call things as I see them on all sides

I did note on his Blog today Shawn states “I don’t work directly for them” in referring to WCAP, so the question I have is who does he work for if not WCAP? Is it a volunteer position with or does he work directly for Warren Shaw has many in Dracut have long suspected?

“I need $20,000 to juice the delegation,” ..Hard to believe Tully on this one

So sayeth former City Manager Joe Tully to Jack Paley allegedly with Tom Byrne in the room according to the FBI and wiretaps they had on Mr. Tully. The Sun today has another chapter on the ongoing investigation into the Registry move.

Now I have been very critical of State Reps. Murphy & Golden and to some degree Nangle while I have stated that I like Sen. Steve Panagiotakos. I also have stated that I like Joe Tully. Even though Joe has been convicted before.

I just cannot and unless proven otherwise will not believe that any of the Lowell Delegation, especially Kevin Murphy or Steve Panagiotakos are stupid and would risk their positions for short dough. Pangy & Murphy are well established politicians and lawyers and $4,000 is not going to be a huge deal to either of them and certainly not worth losing your livelihood over. If they were found guilty of taking a bribe, kick-back whatever you want to call it they would face disbarment and be unable to practice law and neither gentleman is that stupid.

The same holds true for Nangle and Tom Golden. They have been in office a long time and are well established. $4,000 or even $7,000 or $10,000 (2-3 Way split with Tully) isn’t worth a $60,000 a year plus job. Neither Golden or Nangle that we know of is in desperate need of cash. No matter my difference with Golden’s voting record or lobbyist connections, I don’t think Tom is stupid, greedy or a fool to risk his reputation and family name, and the same holds true for Dave Nangle.

Joe Tully has a conviction for a similar offense, the possibility exist at least in my mind that Joe was shaking down Paley for his personal gain and even if he talked to the Reps and Senator unless they have them on tape or video I’m behind the Lowell Delegation on this one. They wanted to keep the Registry here in Lowell no matter what but would not take a kickback or bribe to do it.

I also think Tom Byrnes may be in the same situation. Just because he was in the room doesn’t mean he knew what Tully said on the end of the phone, unless the recording shows Paley, Byrne and Tully all talking and then all bets are off. I believe Tully may have been acting alone and the others are getting caught up via association.

Some will call me naive (or worse) but until proven otherwise I support the Lowell Delegation and Tom Byrne and if I get proven wrong will be the first one to say so. To often many (myself included) will jump to the conclusion that politicians are dirty and cheat and screw the taxpayers. This time I’m going with the You are Innocent until Proven Guilty and ask you to give our state delegation the same benefit.
