Status of the City of Lowell Home Rule Petition

Gerry: State Rep. Kevin Murphy who filed the Home Rule Petition on behalf of the City of Lowell, graciously emailed me this update on the status of the petition:

Gerry,

Due to the Formal Session ending 07/31/2010, no action will be taken relative to the Home Rule Petition. Please contact me in January of 2011 to discuss the status and process of the petition.

Regards,

Representative Kevin J. Murphy
Eighteenth Middlesex

I appreciate the update from Rep. Murphy and the offer to touch base with him in January to follow the process of the petition.

  1. As I predicted when you published the candidate responses, the issue was ignored. Colleen Garry can continue to “investigate the matter” until after the election. Care to guess what she will discover should she be reelected?
If you are happy with the way the statehouse is run, if you think public employees have already paid too high a price in the recession vote to reelect Ms. Garry. If you want to see some reform of state government VOTE BOAG.

  2. Um..It’s only July! So we have to wait six months? Wish I was getting paid a cool $65K to work six months of the year.
