Sunday Notes 6/27 2010

Not a BIG week in the Sun Political column. It gives us more detail on the ZAIM attempt and bullying License Commissioner Walter Bayliss and how the City is now going after the many potential conflicts of ZAIM. This guy is a sore loser who knows his client is in the wrong and is pulling out all stops trying to delay a hearing.

TUESDAY WE GET TO SEE IF THE TEACHERS UNION LIVE UP TO THE PROMISE TO “DO ARE SHARE” OR IF THEY KEEP THE CONDITIONS LISTED IN TODAY’S SUN INCLUDING WANTING TO TAKE THE DAY BEFORE SCHOOL OFF WITHOUT PAY. IF THAT IS THEIR IDEA OF A SACRIFICE ASK THE OTHER UNIONS IN THE CITY WHAT THEY THINK OF IT.

Speaking of Schools Monday after first stating they would not have a public meeting, The Technical School Committee will meet to discuss and maybe approve a contract for the new Supt. who is supposed to take over this Thursday July 1st also at that meeting it might be nice to find out who the 2 new Asst. Supt. will be and what is their contract status?

Great turnout at the Veterans Park in Dracut yesterday for the Car Show/Fundraiser. The director Don Morowski deserves mush praise.

Eileen Donahue gets destroyed by Avi and Cooksey: Senate Candidate Eileen Donoghue called into the Tom & Todd show on 680 WRKO. Republican fill in host Avi Nelson and Finnigan’s Producer ripped Eileen after she hung up. They promote this on the RKO website but don’t spell the candidates name correctly which tells you a lot about cooksey. You can hear the whole thing here.

The Boston Globe has a story that states Patrick leads, but Baker surging. Left in Lowell is holding a House Party for Gov. Patrick and a fundraiser on their site.

The rumor split between Jon Zimini and Ken Cunha I am told is false. They did have a major disagreement but like all friends, cooled off and moved on and are still friends.

Congressional Candidate Sam Meas is Heading out to Nara Park in Acton with volunteers. After Nara Park, he will be heading out to Tyngsboro Sportsmen’s’ Club for target shootings.

Pete Wilde passes along the following invitation: Please join me as I welcome Rep. Barry Finegold for a meet and greet this Tuesday evening June 29th at my store located at 1229 Lakeview Avenue from 5-7 pm. Refreshments will be served.

2nd Essex and Middlesex District state Senate Candidate Andover Republican Jamison Tomasek,”I think the Legislature is in touch with what gets them elected, what helps their friends. They’re in touch with their special interests, not with the taxpayers.”

Chris Doherty Senate Candidate spent time during Franco-American Week talking with voters and celebrating their rich heritage with them at many events in the city

  1. Ms. Donahue in her radio talk basically said she would continue the same path as the current leadership, which means left of Sen. Pangy.

I think Finneran defended her too much. She didn’t answer either way on simple questions.

Too bad she doesn’t have meaningful opposition.

  2. what is in it for you? says:

I think anyone who holds fundraisers that say they are doing it for the good of the community should pledge to not take a job in any way from the candidate. Some people think they are only doing it to enhance their careers, lively hood and recognition. So pledge to never self promote or use it for gain.

  3. You should check out the OCPF site to see how the candidates are connected. It is mostly through their influence on legislation that they can help supporters. In addition to the listed support, candidates who have their own businesses (law firms for example) can see a lot of business come their way after election.

Legislators only have aide jobs to “give” and they are generally below the level of what a supporter would want.

  4. what is in it for you says:

“can see a lot of business come their way after election.” That is self serving and a lot of supporters would like that, so I still think if you are going to raise money you should excuse yourself from personal gain

…and just “an aide?”that has a lot of influence since what they see and hear is invaluable. You minimize an aide’s job.

  5. What is in it-

I’m not following you I guess. My point is that many in the current legislature (which is almost entirely Democrats) are in it for themselves. Their supporters can get in on the action because having a friend in the legislature is very useful. That’s the way politics works and that is why we need more balance. Typically people who hold fundraisers have jobs that that pay more that and aides $50K annual salary.
